Description

The Recreation Coordinator / Counselor is responsible for delivery of the districts Kinder Keepers (Kindergarten before/after school), Keypers (first-fifth grade before/after school), Winter Camp and Spring Break Camp programs during the school year as well as the Summer Day Camp programs.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Direct the development of program curriculum and coordinates the delivery of curriculum
  • Prepare reports, statistics, and evaluation of programming
  • Assist with emergency procedures and building evacuation
  • Lead and/or teach various activities
  • Problem solve differences that may arise with parents or children
  • Inspect and recommend program equipment repairs and improvements
  • Implement and supervise purchasing in accordance with district policies and procedures
  • Works closely with parents to promote an understanding of growth and development of their child
  • Monitor program participation and take corrective action steps for both low enrollment and waiting lists
  • Monitor status and condition of programs and physical locations of programs
  • Evaluate staffing needs (including recruitment, hiring, training, and evaluation) and make adjustments within the department to ensure programs operate efficiently and create an environment for success
  • Assist in interpreting resident needs and delivering programs and services to meet those needs
  • Promote, organize and stimulate good relationships with community and other interest groups and with other agencies serving the area
  • Perform other duties and functions as directed

 

Qualifications

Graduation from high school and a minimum of 12 units/hours at an accredited college or university in Early Childhood Education/Child Development is required plus minimum of one-year experience as a teacher of children such as teacher’s aide, assistant, student intern or other comparable experience including six months work experience in a licensed daycare center is preferred

  • Some supervisory experience preferred
  • Red Cross Certification in CPR and First Ai
  • Valid State of Illinois driver’s license required

 

Pay Range

$8.25 – $10.00 depending on qualifications

Hours

The Recreation Coordinator / Counselor schedule is less than 20 hours a week, maximum of 1,000 annually, Monday through Friday. It is essential to be regularly available during standard business hours to meet with staff, other businesses and government agencies with occasional evenings for open-house and parent conferences. It is necessary to clock in/out each work day.
