Aquatics Fitness Instructor

Under the direct supervision of the Fitness Supervisor, the aqua fitness instructor provides water aerobics instruction, monitors, educates patrons on fitness and safety, and maintains a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for class participants.

Responsibilities & Duties

The Aqua Fitness Instructor is responsible for creating and implementing the proper format for the class being taught. They must adhere to and uphold Addison Park District Customer Service Standards. They must teach classes to the abilities of their patrons, not their own. They must provide leadership and guidance to participants regarding proper form and skills and report to class at least 10 minutes early to prepare pool, set up equipment, arrange music and greet guests. They are responsible for communicating with participants regarding any changes for the class. They must report any problems or repairs of equipment to Fitness Supervisor immediately after class. They are responsible for finding replacement substitutes and report them to Fitness Supervisor. They need to attend all staff meetings and trainings & attendance is mandatory and subject to appropriate disciplinary actions. They advise participants on program and class policies and procedures, as appropriate. The aqua fitness instructor assists in performing follow-up and communication with participants, as required. They must also perform miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. They must communicate information, as needed, to members and patrons. They need to be knowledgeable of all Club Fitness and Addison Park District happenings. They need to maintain an approachable appearance and be friendly with Club Fitness members and guests. They must listen to members’ concerns and complaints in a positive and understanding manner. Take notes of their complaints and respond in a respectful, kind way. Help if possible, if not explain to them that you will notify the Fitness Supervisor. They must follow employee manual and procedures. Finally, they should check email regularly for work-related communications.


Group Exercise Instructors must be 18 years or older, and possess knowledge of all areas of water aerobic fitness. Must be certified as an Aqua Fitness Instructor through a nationally accredited association, relevant to the class format they teach (i.e. AEA, ASFA, NAFC, etc ). Aqua Fitness Instructors must be able to work on their own without direction. Must be able to handle complaints and concerns from participants and supervisor and professionally respond. They must dress properly and carry themselves in a professional manner. Aqua Fitness Instructors, as with all park district employees, must believe in the Addison Park District mission and philosophy and work as a team member of the Addison Park District Fitness Staff.

Pay Range

Starting at $18.00


The position of Aqua Fitness Instructor is a part-time position and will not exceed average weekly hours of 19 hours per week. As an Aqua Fitness Instructor of the Addison Park District, hours will be varied due class attendance and instructor availabilit
